Asymmetrical Training and Asymmetrical Balance Training

E-mail Print PDF

True asymmetrical training is not about balance but about making each side better to improve the working efficiency of the paired team. When running the right and left leg have different functions,(propulsion and stabilizing) an attempt to make them equal(have the same functions) would lower their working efficiency as a paired team. The goal of asymmetrical training should be to improve the working functions of the individual side and not to make them equal. Instead of making one side as strong as the other side, make each side perform better at it's assigned function.

In keeping with running, you would want the propulsion side to function better at propelling and the stability size to perform better at stabilizing during the movement of running.

Now for Asymmetrical balance training it would mean to let each side learn the functions of the other side but never perform the same functions at the same time. One side has to lead and one side has to follow during movement for peak working efficiency.
